A good story, but the characters not really believable.  Very entertaining, understandably a popular best seller.  A typical Barbara Delinsky novel, appealing to a wide audience of women.

Someone Knows My Name by Lawrence Hill

A fascinating novel of the life of an African girl captured and sent over to the colonies as a slave.  Told in flashbacks by the old woman, it follows her through two “owners”, her husband and 2 children, freedom (of a sort), and a return to Africa, ending in England where she speaks to Parliament as part of their efforts to end the slave trade.  Excellent story!

Remember Me by Sophie Kinsella

I really love Sophie Kinsella’s sense of humor.  Her characters seem very down to earth and believable.  I’ve enjoyed all her books and this one is about a heroine who develops amnesia after an auto accident and what ensues is fun!

The Knitting Circle by Ann Hood

When Ann Hood wrote this fictional story of a mother whose young daughter dies, she was still grieving the real death of her own daughter but was unable to write about the true events yet. (She later did so in the non-fiction book “Comfort: A Journey Through Grief”)  The knitting circle tracks the fictional grieving mother’s healing with the love and support of a group of knitters who form a bond through their shared pains and joys.  Deeply emotional and interesting characters.
