Tillie is in the running for the post of ladies maid for Mrs. Vanderbuilt, when she’s recruited to teach Mack Danvers manners and etiquette.  Sparks fly, endangering their futures at the Biltmore.  Well written piece of historical Christian Fiction.

The Queen’s Fool by Philippa Gregory

Historical fiction (1550′s)   Covers the transition from King Edward to Queen Mary to Queen Elizabeth.  Strong female protagonist who depicts the plight of Jewish people in Western Europe in this time period.  “Fool” refers to protagonist’s “sight” of things to come.  A terrific page turner without the raunchiness of  her other novel, “The Other Boleyn Girl.”

Pope Joan by Donna Wolfolk Cross

Historical fiction brings the legend to life.  There is evidence of a female pope and Pope Joan chronicles her life story.  Well written, very interesting.  Describes the 9th Century in detail.

A race book expert traces the history of a 15th century Hebrew manuscript (Haggadah) created in Spain through its travels and survival of the Sarajevo bombings in the 1990′s.  The narrator traces clues to analyze “the different hands that made, used, and protected it.”  History, religion, culture, politics, book conservation, suspense, romance – all culled into one.

The Heretics Daughter by Kathleen Kent

Historical fiction covering the period of the Salem Witch Trials as told by a child.  The story is also the true story of the author’s relative.  An easy read and very moving, but sad tale  part of our nation’s history.
